Today was the start of week 5, the final week of the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet's 2011 Summer Intensive! It's hard to believe that almost 5 weeks have gone by. I've met so many wonderful fellow hard-working dancers - dedicated, smart, funny, talented - it's going to be hard to say goodbye to many of them. Our class has had some really good times together, and we're having fun rehearsing our pieces for the end of the intensive performance this Saturday. This week is really all about the performance this weekend.
Today we started at 9AM and finished around 6:30PM. It was a fulfilling day. We started with a warm-up and then technique class, which was really nice. The class felt really good - I felt connected and in control - a rare thing for a Monday morning! Guess my relaxing weekend helped!
Later, in the afternoon, we had mime class - working with a scene with dialogue, which will be changed to mime in tomorrow's class. Then we had a rep class with Ms. Kirkland, working on a variation for the performance. The variation is from La Fille Mal Gardee. It is both challenging and fun, and I'm so happy to be having the opportunity to dance it! Working with Ms. Kirkland is really amazing.
Afterward, we rehearsed our waltz from Giselle. It's intense, working to be technically as perfect as we can be, but it is an enjoyable piece and I'm looking forward to performing it. We will also be performing a Character piece, which the directors were very pleased with. It was a full day but worth every moment. Tomorrow we start our day mid-morning and finish around 7. The next few days we'll be running through our individual pieces as well as full run-throughs of the show. Friday we'll be in the theater! For now, I'll just be enjoying every moment.
