Check out my Tumbleblog!

So I know I haven't been blogging on here for awhile...since January 29th, in fact.  I have news on my current online activities, however! I discovered the site Tumblr, and decided to set up an account there.  I played around with templates and posting for a little bit and finally put together a blog I really like.  I will say that I absolutely love Tumblr - it is so easy to use to blog text, images, videos, quotes, audio - you name it. Also, I can view so much great content and re-blog it as well, from all categories that interest me (not just ballet!).

So what is a tumbleblog?  (Definition from Wikipedia)
A tumbleblog is a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumbleblogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing a commentary.

For me, finding Tumblr and deciding to make it my primary blog has been amazing.  I love it and will never go back!  It has been exciting for me to find something that can be so easy to use, the opportunity to view and exchange great content (primarily photos and images), and be able to quickly share what I'm doing in a simple text post.  No offense to Blogger, (or Google!) but I've found Blogger a bit clunky for my purposes, maneuvering-wise and also the amount of time required to manage and produce consistent posts (hence the lack of mine)... which made me feel guilty to current and potential followers and readers of this blog that I couldn't give as much of my time as I wanted to.  I'm certainly not as minimalist as the twitter-sphere, nor am I that technologically obsessed, and for me, Tumblr is a great in-between.  Many people probably wouldn't realize it, but most posts here on my blog have required a minimum of an hour, and usually more towards 2 hours or longer to write/transfer content from another source, edit, upload photos, and then post/re-edit.  I've often surprised myself after sitting down to blog when I look at the clock and realize how much time has disappeared while I was working on a post!  Unfortunately, I rarely have such unlimited time to give to a post, and often that results in the absence of them (to my chagrin).  When I get home after a busy/hard/tiring/long day, and either time-wise or energy wise it's not possible to write up a post, I can share a quick recap, thought, or reflection in a few minutes on Tumblr that can be viewed and shared by the large readership there.  And best of all, there's an easy option to queue posts for consistent posting!  That's a real joy when you find you don't have enough time to post.

Another drawback for me here on Blogger - a more pressing problem than time or effort - has been my internet at the NYC apartment, which can often be intermittent and weak.  Surprisingly, I'm able to generally use the internet with ease, and for the most part streaming video and flash works well, but strangely, Blogger can be a bit difficult.  A week 1/2 or so ago I attempted several posts that included photos and could not get them to upload.  After battling the whole evening I finally had to give up.  Also, if I'm composing on Blogger and something happens to the internet connection, it's very easy to lose posts even with auto-save.  On Tumblr it's no problems to upload photos, and to my delight, even refreshing a page doesn't dump your current work!

So I'm sure you get it by now, I love Tumblr... it's easy to share my passion and love of dance, as well as city life and the things that interest me with you the reader, as well as with the larger readership on Tumblr!  So, I won't bore you by enthusing any longer, though I am really excited by my new endeavors and hope that you will be too.  I've had fun here on Blogger and will keep this blog up as an archive.  I hope that you'll stop by my new blog now and stay tuned for everything and more I had to share here - only now it will be much better and more frequent!  I look forward to sharing with you from Tumblr:

Love,
